Greenwood Village, Colo., — October 14, 2009 — GH Phipps Construction Companies and B&M Construction have been approved by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to enter into a SBA Mentor Protégé Agreement between the two firms.
At GH Phipps, the vision is to “continually enrich the lives of our employees, clients and communities” and the company is continually working to identify additional ways to give back to the community. "When GH Phipps was approached by B&M Construction as a possible joint venture partner in the SBA’s Mentor Protégé program, we saw this as a way to help fulfill our vision and began working on the year-long process to get the agreement approved," said Victoria Hatfield, Director of Business Development for GH Phipps.
The Mentor-Protégé Program enhances the capability of a certified 8(a) small, socially and economically disadvantaged and minority-owned business to compete successfully for federal government contracts. Mentors provide technical and management assistance, financial assistance, subcontract support and assistance in performing prime contracts by working with 8(a) firms.
"Barbara Myrick, President of B&M Construction, shares the same values as GH Phipps and her vision is that one day she will have an employee-owned enterprise," said Kurt Klanderud, President of GH Phipps. "The synergy between our two companies was readily evident."

Based on GH Phipps commitment as reflected in the Application package, our goal is to provide B&M insight into our processes and procedures, which we have been developed over the past 50 years, and assist them in creating a sustainable business.
"GH Phipps is very excited to have B&M as a protégé and they continue to prove themselves as great partners and eager to learn and teach new processes. We are looking forward to a very successful relationship with them" said Klanderud.
In reference to a famous quote from Eleanor Roosevelt, Barbara Myrick, President of B&M Construction said, “'The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams' and I believe in B&M Construction and in developing a relationship with GH Phipps.
